Townsend Bluff Walk Inverloch
This walk is my go to walk when I need to take 5 and try to forget the stresses of work and life. It is located less than 30 mins from home so is almost my local walk. Townsend Bluff is a good length at approx. 2kms from the carpark at the end of the foreshore caravan park. I like to walk a little further so usually park near the toilets at the beach end of Cuttriss St. I then have the option to walk through the caravan park and check out the vans, or walk along the beach. This adds at least an extra 1km each way.
Townsend Bluff walk takes you initially from the carpark through the shrubs on the foreshore to where the estuary meets the inlet. The inlet is tidal so the water level changes significantly depending on the time you walk. During low tide you can wander right out on the sand and check out the soldier crabs as the scramble to bury themselves before you pick them up. The millions of crabs are an amazing sight. They are so active and funny, running sideways to try to keep safe from the dogs and kids trying to grab them.
Follow the estuary around and cross over the river on the bridge. Take a moment here to look out over the mangroves and inlet, it is a peaceful spot. As you follow the path you can head off to the left and check out the small fishing jetty that has been built. The track forks off as you head up the hill and you can chose to walk either way – it is a loop so you won’t miss anything. If you stick to the right you will wander around the bluff and spot the amazing views over the inlet to Venus Bay. There is a seat here so you can spent some time admiring the view and taking photos.
The walk then turns inland and heads towards farmland. The most amazing, and probably most photographed tree is just around the corner. You will know it when you see it. I always hang here for a bit trying to get the best photo. Shuffling around to check the light at different angles. If I knew what I was doing I am sure it would be easier to get a great shot.
The path then heads downhill back to the fork and eventually to the bridge. If you want a different route back to the car park you can walk along the beach. Just be careful of the tides as the beach is blocked at high tide. Once back to the start you can take a moment to check out the beach and views. It is a beautiful place to be. I love this walk – it is one of my favourites.
In the current Covid world we need to spend more time in our backyards. Do you have a great walk close by that you appreciate more now?

This is an awesome walk. You need to also climb the tree at the top (no matter how old you are!!).
